Articles for architects and developers: what a floor plan can become, what images cost, where AI helps and where it stops. Every figure is either arithmetic or cited.

Floor plan to 3D
How to turn a floor plan into a 3D model
A floor plan holds walls, openings and rooms — but no heights. What a plan must contain for a model to be built from it, and what you add yourself.
Rendering cost
What does an architectural rendering cost?
Studio, in-house or software: the three items that make up the price, why the second view costs almost as much as the first, and what most quotes leave out.
AI renderings
AI renderings for architects: what works and what breaks
Image models add material and light convincingly. They cannot keep geometry they were never given. Where that line runs, and how to stay on the useful side of it.
Sun position
Sun position in visualisation: why the hour changes everything
The same facade reads differently at 9 in the morning and at 5 in the afternoon. How the sun position is computed, which hour suits which purpose, and why a shading study is a different thing.
Data protection
GDPR and AI visualisation: what happens to your plans
Plans are confidential, sometimes personal. Which data leaves your office, the four questions every provider must answer and what belongs in the contract.
Client feedback
Client comments in the 3D model instead of e-mail threads
A pin on the house says more than a paragraph. How clients mark up the model and the pictures through the share link, without an account, what is stored and how the practice works through the list.
Vector PDF
Vector PDF or scan: what a floor plan file gives the reader
A PDF exported from CAD carries its walls as lines with coordinates. A scan carries pixels. Why that difference decides how much you correct afterwards, and how to export the better file.
IFC in the browser
Opening an IFC file in the browser: how it works and where it stops
An IFC from Archicad, Revit, Vectorworks or Allplan converts to a viewable model in the browser. The file never leaves the device; only the geometry is uploaded. What that means and where the 60 MB line runs.
360° panorama
A 360° panorama from the planning model
One click at the current viewpoint gives a full sphere at 2:1, ready for portals and headsets. What the panorama shows, what it does not, and how it differs from a turntable and from an image-model picture.
Geometry fidelity
Why AI renders move walls, and what a depth map does about it
An image model paints what is likely, not what is drawn. How a depth map, a clay view and the plan hold the structure in place, where the method still gives way, and how to check a picture in a minute.
Sun study
A sun study in the browser: the model’s day as a short clip
Set the site and the date, and the browser records how shadows move across the model from morning to evening. No points, no image model. When the video-model clip is the better choice, and what a sun study is not.
Small practices
Visualisation for small architecture practices: a month of points instead of one picture
A practice of two or three people rarely buys a studio picture for a house. What changes when a month of visualisation costs a fixed sum and a 2K picture costs four points, and when a studio still makes sense.
Client meeting
Preparing a client meeting with a 3D model: a 30-minute checklist
Model checked, two variants ready, share link sent, comments during the meeting, approval at the end. A checklist that fits into half an hour the evening before.
Multi-storey
Multi-storey houses: one plan per storey
From the basement to the fifth floor, each storey has its own page. What happens to storeys without a plan, how set-back storeys and balconies work, which checks run and how to look at one floor alone.
AI or studio
AI visualisation or a rendering studio? Six criteria
Purpose, time, variants, control over geometry, budget, rights and privacy: six questions that decide between a plan-based picture and a studio, and the cases where the answer is both.
Archicad export
Exporting from Archicad: which translator arrives in VEDUTUM
Archicad has a translator for every purpose. Which one suits a visualisation, what the model view definition has to do with file size, and why your surfaces are lost on the way.
Revit export
Exporting from Revit: the IFC setup a visualisation needs
Revit writes IFC through a setup you can change — and should change for images. Which switches matter, why “visible in view” is a trap, and what arrives of materials.
Vectorworks export
Exporting from Vectorworks: IFC is the reliable route
Vectorworks exports IFC in three versions and GLB only through a side door. Which route works for a visualisation, what to switch off first, and what arrives of classes and textures.
SketchUp and Rhino
SketchUp and Rhino: GLB instead of IFC — and why it is better here
Both programs write GLB natively, so material and texture come along, unlike over IFC. What that means for mesh density, what to watch with units, and where the limit is.
Planning visuals
Visuals for a planning application: what authorities expect
In a permit procedure plans, sections and elevations decide. Where a visualisation still helps, how it must match the submitted state and which mistakes delay a procedure.
Listing images
Listing images for developers: which views sell apartments
A listing has ten seconds. Which four images work in that time, why the floor plan belongs next to them and how to work per apartment type instead of per building.
Camera flights
Planning camera flights that nobody skips
Most architectural videos are too long and too uniform. Which four movements are enough, how long a clip can carry and why the edit matters more than the camera.
Jury boards
Jury boards: which images convince in two minutes
A jury looks at each board briefly. Which three images carry in that time, which resolution boards need and how to keep a deadline without all-nighters.
IFC visualisation
Visualising an IFC file: what the format can and cannot do
IFC is the open standard for building models. Why an IFC file does not simply appear in a browser, how conversion to glTF works and which export settings save trouble.
Rendering resolution
4K or 8K? The right resolution for architectural renderings
How many pixels a rendering really needs for presentation, brochure, poster and site hoarding. With the calculation for print size and viewing distance.
Camera flight timing
Rendering a camera flight: planning frames, frame rate and render time
Why a 30-second video classically needs 750 individual frames, what that means in compute time and why a flight built from segments is finished in minutes rather than hours.
Facade variants
Agreeing facade variants without commissioning again
Render, timber or brick is rarely decided at the sample board. How to make three variants comparable in the same view and which rules keep the comparison fair.
